Clarendon House was a town mansion which stood on Piccadilly from the 1660s to the 1680s. It was built for the powerful politician Edward Hyde, 1st Earl of Clarendon and was the grandest private London residence of its era. The original house was demolished and re-built in 1958 and has not lost any of its charm. The Goat Tavern proudly boasts original features, transporting you back with its original beams from the moment you walk in.
In 1697, The Goat Tavern was in the possession of one William Underwood who, in March of that year, sold the remainder of his 52 year lease to Robert Munden. The rent was not a patch on what it would be today, at a meagre £6 per annum payable half yearly. Ten years later, it was purchased by the Vicar and Churchwardens of St Mary Abbots and remained the property of the parish until 1828. In 1878 the Goat Tavern was rebuilt and the frontage extended by adding a wines and spirits department on the west side, which is now incorporated into the bar area.

Our drinks include a great range of real ales and an extensive wine list. Our cask ales range has some of the best in British beers, including the new 1730, our very own special pale ale.
