Le Hanoi (Macclesfield Street) | Vietnamese
Good things come to those who wait and at Le Hanoi on Macclesfield Street, their pho broth is lovingly simmered for 16 hours to achieve perfection. Pretty much Vietnam’s signature dish, pho soup is fast becoming one of the UK’s favourite comfort eats too, thanks to the warming, fragrant broth, slurp-worthy rice noodles and tasty meats.
Serving up 10 types of pho, Le Hanoi is a must-visit destination for any pho-fiend. Die-hards should try their Combo Pho – starring a power-punching 6 types of beef cut, it’s the ultimate pho feast. With over 30 years experience, it’s safe to say their head chef is something of a pho pro.
Side-wise expect crowd-pleasing Vietnamese classics like summer rolls (translucent white rice paper tenderly encasing a filling of prawn, mint, basil and vermicelli) and lightly battered crispy squid seasoned with salt and pepper.
With bare-brick walls, quirky pendant lighting and a giant Vietnamese flag gold star motif, Le Hanoi’s vibe is fun and funky attracting a young crowd both during the day for lunch (don’t miss their set menu lunch offer) and after dark too. Great cocktails make it a lively evening spot – including iconic numbers such as old fashioneds and their own house specials like the sweet and saucy Prom Star featuring caramel vodka, Passosa Passion Fruit liqueur and passion fruit puree. For something a little less boozy, opt for their traditional Vietnamese drip coffee made with condensed milk.
