Introducing Lina Stores...
Lina Stores is an Italian delicatessen in the heart of London's Soho. We import and sell authentic Italian produce, and we make fresh pasta, cakes, hot dishes and sandwiches on site as well as the very best Italian coffee. We have an unrivalled selection of cured meats, cheeses and antipasti. Our shelves are crowded with a range of nostalgia-inducing brands as well as products you'd given up all hope of finding. From Burrata to Bottarga, Gnocchi to 'Nduja, we aim to represent the best that Italy has to offer.
Lina Stores takes its name from the original founder "Lina", a formidable lady from Genova who established the delicatessen in the 1940s. Lina initially bought premises off Rupert Street but soon found them to be too small and moved to the current location on Brewer Street only a few months later. When she later returned to Italy, Giovanni and Rosa Filippi took over.
Giovanni was born in Vernasca (in the Province of Piacenza) as were Rosa’s parents. Both came to live in London though fate decreed that their paths would not cross in the capital, but instead were to meet whilst holidaying separately in their shared Italian hometown.
History would eventually repeat itself years later as Giovanni and Rosa’s daughter, Gabriella, met her husband-to-be, Antonio Saccomani when they were both on holiday in Vernasca. Today’s shop manager, Gabriella and Antonio’s son-in-law, Massimo Perdoni, continues the long, proud family tradition.
When Lina Stores was initially founded, Soho was an area filled with Italian shops, bars and restaurants. Over the decades that followed, many of the owners of these business have slowly closed their doors and either moved to leafier suburbs or returned to their homeland. Lina Stores is now one of only a handful of local businesses that can proudly cite over 70 years of continued presence in Soho, and looks forward to 70 more!
