Portrait of a Collector Print
by National Gallery

£20.00

1500s

The sitter is unidentified, but may have been a collector of note. The imitation classical relief on the left probably represents Mars and Venus with Cupid, and the statuette on the table may be a figure of Ceres, and is probably antique, as are the coins.

Probably painted in Parma before 1524, although a later date is also possible.
