The Virgin and the twelve Apostles are shown with hands joined in prayer. They receive the Holy Spirit, which is shown descending as a Dove (Acts of the Apostles 1).
This is thought to be one panel of a composite picture, which perhaps included an Ascension (in the Capitoline Museum, Rome).
