St-Vincent is in the valley of Le Falgoux which extends up to Puy Mary, one of the principal summits of the Cantal region in the Auvergne. The painting has been dated to 1830, when Rousseau travelled in the Auvergne.
The composition was extended with a narrow strip at the top, probably by Rousseau himself.
