A pencil description on the reverse identifies this painting as a landscape near Annecy (in the Haute-Savoie region of France), but the scenery depicted here bears little resemblance to the Lac d'Annecy. Areas of brushwork, for example the foliage in the right background, are reminiscent of works by Cézanne, whom Renoir visited in 1888 and 1889.
