This is an early work. The influence of works by Paulus Potter, like his 'Landscape with Cows, Sheep and Horses by a Barn' of 1651 in the National Gallery, is apparent in the delicate painting of the animals set in a landscape of feathery trees, shadowed in the middle distance and brightly illuminated by the sun in the foreground.
