To the right of the Grand Canal is the church of Santa Croce. Further in the distance are the dome of S. Simeone Piccolo and, beyond, the campanile of S. Geremia. This painting is a pendant to 'Venice: S.Simeone Piccolo'.
In spite of their inscriptions they are considered to be pastiches in the manner of Canaletto. The composition for this work may be derived from part of an engraving by Visentini of 1742. The composition appears as part of another work in the collection, 'Venice: Upper Reaches of the Grand Canal facing Santa Croce', which may be by the same artist.
