The Water Cistern ('La Fontaine') Print
by National Gallery

£20.00

1700s

The French title is Chardin's; La Fontaine refers to the prominent copper cistern. There are several versions of the design, including a painting dated 1733 (Nationalmuseum, Stockholm), which was exhibited at the Salon, possibly in 1734. Chardin often exhibited at the Salon paintings done many years previously. One version of 'The Water Cistern' was probably exhibited at the Salon of 1773.
