A River Scene with a Large Ferry Print
by National Gallery

£20.00

1600s

The ferry ('veerpont') in the foreground has a cannon in its cargo. It has a red and white striped ensign and a yellow and white flag draped over the side. Other vessels are flying Dutch colours.

This seascape was probably painted in the mid-1660s, at about the same time as van de Cappelle's 'A River Scene with a Dutch Yacht'.
