An Imaginary View of Nijenrode Castle Print
by National Gallery

£20.00

1600s

Van der Heyden has combined a view of part of Utrecht Cathedral, at the left, with a depiction of Nijenrode Castle which is at Breukelen, about seven miles outside of the city.

Both the sacristy of the cathedral, which can be seen here, and the castle, were subsequently altered, but van der Heyden's view of the cathedral as it was in his day is largely accurate. The painter has, however, shown the sacristy as built of brick rather than stone.
