The sitter has not been identified; she wears pearls at her wrist, neck and in her head-dress, and holds a fan. The arms on the escutcheon at the top left of the portrait are apparently those of the Gillon family, Barons of Basseghem, near Bruges. Judging by the diamond shape of the escutcheon, the sitter is an unmarried lady or a widow.
The picture may be by an Amsterdam painter.
