This painting was formerly thought to be by the Utrecht painter Melichior d'Hondecoeter (1636 - 1695) but has recently been reattributed to Spruyt on the basis of comparison with signed pictures by him (e.g. in The Hague, Bredius Museum and Ayrshire, Culzean Castle).
