A smaller version of this portrait (Rome, Galleria Nazionale) is traditionally identified as a representation of Cardinal Savelli. Giacomo Savelli, was made Cardinal in 1596 and died in 1599. Pulzone was one of the leading artists in Rome in the last decades of the 16th century.
