An altarpiece depicting the Virgin of Loreto with Saints Jerome and Francis was commissioned from Perugino by Giovanni di Matteo Schiavone (died 7 June 1507) for a chapel to be built on his behalf in the church of Santa Maria de' Servi, Perugia. The executors' contract demanded completion of the painting by September 1507, but it is not known if it was delivered on time. It is possible the execution was not entirely by Perugino.
