Tofu

Abura Age is a traditional Japanese food that is made from tofu, which has been deep fried in two stages at two different temperatures. It often appears in miso soup, is the main ingredient for making inarizushi and is also the featured ingredient that gives kitsune udon (fox udon) its name. Naming it ‘kitsune’ derives from the old Japanese legend that foxes have an appetite for deep-fried tofu of course! This versatile food can also be stuffed with vegetables, meat or natto (if you are so inclined!) and lightly fried for a truly tasty Japanese snack. For miso soup, pour boiling water over one of the abura-age pieces to remove any excess oil, cut it up into thin strips and add to miso soup. Please note that we cannot guarantee the brand of abura-age due to stock fluctuation. The product may differ slightly from image.
