This painting presumably shows a scene from the Bible or classical history, but the subject has not been identified. Traditionally it was said to show Aeneas in the Palace of Dido.
The architecture, landscape and sky are certainly by Hendrick van Steenwyck the Younger but the figures are probably by another hand.
