1500s

One of the panels decorating the Borgherini bedroom in Florence telling the life of Joseph from the Bible (Old Testament). Here Joseph pardons his brothers for selling him into slavery.

Left, the brothers are brought to Joseph, with Benjamin the youngest a prisoner. Right, they beg for Joseph's mercy; he reveals himself and forgives them (Genesis 43).

'Joseph receives his Brothers' by the artist and 'Joseph sold to Potiphar', 'Pharaoh with his Butler and Baker', 'Joseph's Brothers beg for Help' and 'Joseph with Jacob in Egypt' by Pontormo, are part of the same series.
