Introducing the May Fair Hotel

Introducing the May Fair hotel in Mayfair is our guide to one of London's best hotels and part of the Radisson Collection. If you are a regular visitor to London and enjoy London's nightlife then the May Fair could be the hotel to accommodate you. Read our preview to know what to expect before booking your stay.

It always helps to know what to expect from your hotel before you make your hotel booking. Even though The May Fair Hotel is reputed to be one of the best hotels if you are considering staying there then read on. It is always great to get the view of someone that has visited the hotel for many years.

From meetings and celebrations hosted by the May Fair Bar, to stays commemorating birthdays and suchlike at the hotel itself there are many memories. I even recall the interviews for the London Club Awards taking place at the hotel on a few occasions.

After a few years away from the city it was interesting to visit such a notable theatre of my memories. I was in London for a various different meetings and was on a tight schedule. After arriving at London Luton Airport and transferring by coach to Baker Street and from there lumbering along with my suitcases on the tube to the usual contempt of Londoners. I reminisce about how I was once one of them. I consider that if I didn't have my luggage could I still be seen as one. By the time I had lugged my baggage up the stares and moved on to other equally benign thoughts my mind was dazzled by the winter sunshine; I was facing Green Park, standing like an island in the flow of people moving along Piccadilly.

The area has changed quite a bit since I first moved to nearby St James's. It is busier and there are more tourists and perhaps a faster pace. People staring at their phones as they dart between the rush hour traffic. Berkeley Square is still as beautiful. The cars in the window at Jack Barclay perhaps less beautiful and more expensive but just as alluring, even for me someone that hasn't driven for ten years.

The Location & Things To Do Nearby

If you are visiting London for the first time then undoubtedly you will have many things you want to do and places you want to visit. In order to cram in as many special moments as you can then you are well advised to stay in central London in a location that makes it easy to get around the city.

There are many great areas of central London to stay in but few are more exclusive and convenient for a short visit to London than Mayfair . Stratton Street connects Berkeley Street and Piccadilly but is not a cut through so has remained relatively free from traffic making it a peaceful yet extremely well placed street,

Berkeley Street joins Berkeley Square a few hundred metres away providing a tranquil space nearby to take a walk or relax in.

If you love shopping there is nearby Regent Street, Oxford Street, and Old and New Bond Street. There are probably not four better shopping streets so closely together in all of London.

For green spaces you have the aforementioned Green Park and Berkeley Square. Buckingham Palace being on the far side of Green Park,

Trafalgar Square which is home to the National Gallery and near enough the National Portrait Gallery; Leicester Square with its cinemas; and of course Piccadilly Circus, with its statue of Eros and famous lights and not much else, at the end of Piccadilly where I arrived by tube and Regent Street; are all nearby.

Rooms & Suites

On this trip I wasn't staying at the hotel I was staying at the nearby Sanctum Soho which I had chosen because I had a pre-arranged meeting there. Therefore it is impossible for me to comment on how the rooms currently are at The May Fair. However I have stayed on four previous occasions so I have a good idea about the size of the rooms and what to expect in terms of comforts and quality of furnishings.

From my experience and looking at the room floor plans for the different room types available I would say The May Fair has rooms and suites to suit the needs for your stay. Whether you are visiting London alone, with family, friends, or for a romantic or no expenses stay there is a room or suite that will be perfect for you.

The hotel's rooms and suites look over Bolton Street, Stratton Street, Curzon Street, Berkeley Square, and Berkeley Square. depending on which room or suite you are staying in.

The hotel's suites seem even more impressive now than I remember them to be. The Ebony Suite for example boasts it own terrace.

Restaurants & Bars

The May Fair's flagship restaurant the May Fair Kitchen showcases the best of Spanish and Italian small plates whilst also serving Peruvian, Mexican and Japanese dishes from their sister restaurants, Monmouth Kitchen, Leicester Square Kitchen and Peter Street Kitchen. There is a great wine, and bubbly selection too including some reasonably priced but certainly decent house wines.

The May Fair bar is a reason to stay the hotel in itself. Always buzzing and with expertly crafted cocktails it is no surprise it is so popular with locals for after work drinks.
