Joseph Bazalgette Red And Black Plaque - The Crossness Engines The restored 1865 Prince Consort Engine was a key part of Joseph Bazalgette's sewage system and is one of four James Watt Rotative Beam Engines still in its original setting. Representing the change from cast iron to steel and the more effective use of steam, it played a key part in freeing London from Cholera and Typhoid.
